Coronavirus & Covid-19: Updates, Symptoms and Risk Factors

[vc_row][vc_column][boc_heading]Overview of Corona Virus [/boc_heading][vc_column_text]The first case of coronavirus was discovered during the 1930s when domestic chickens were affected with acute respiratory infections caused by the Infectious Bronchitis Virus. Human Coronavirus cases were first registered during the 1960s in the countries of the United Kingdom and the United States of America. They used two different standard techniques to isolate the people who are affected by the Coronavirus

Depending on the severity of the disease and how far they spread, doctors classified the coronaviruses into different types.

Currently, doctors have identified seven types of viruses that can affect humans.

Types of coronaviruses:

  • 229E (Alpha Coronavirus)
  • NL63 (Alpha Coronavirus)
  • OC43 (Beta Coronavirus)
  • HKU1 (Beta Coronavirus)
  • SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome)
  • MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome)

In 2019 new kind of virus was identified as SARS-CoV-2, which causes the disease COVID-19.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][boc_heading]COVID-19 [/boc_heading][vc_column_text]Coronaviruses are a group of viruses that can affect the respiratory system of birds and humans that causes the common cold, dry throat, dry cough, and sinus infections. All varieties of coronaviruses are not dangerous but viruses like Severe acute respiratory syndrome(SARS), and Middle East respiratory syndrome(MERS) are deadly.

In December 2019, the World Health Organization identified a new type of coronavirus known as SARS-CoV-2 after the disease outbreak in China. It causes a disease called COVID-19. Later in March 2020, due to the quick spread of the disease to many countries globally, the World Health Organization announced the COVID-19 a pandemic.

Millions of people are affected by new coronavirus across the world. The United States of America has registered the highest number of cases that are affected by the new coronavirus. The coronavirus death toll is increasing day by day globally.

The people who developed the symptoms of Coronavirus (COVID-19) are linked to animals and seafood markets indicating the transmission of the virus is through animals. Later people who are not linked to the seafood market also developed the disease proving that humans can transmit the disease.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), pregnant women are most likely to get affected by the coronavirus that may cause severe illness and respiratory problems. The infants born to the affected or suspected women are also subjected to quarantine.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][boc_heading]Corona Virus Symptoms[/boc_heading][vc_column_text]People exposed to Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) may experience the symptoms within 2-14days, this period is known as the incubation period. Doctors identified more than one type of Coronavirus. Earlier reports suggested that the spread of the virus is linked to animals like bats, camels, cats, cattle, and the seafood market. The new coronavirus is known as SARS-CoV-2  and is similar to the MERS and SARS. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][boc_heading]Risk Factors of Corona Virus[/boc_heading][vc_column_text]Coronavirus can affect anyone on the planet. Spread of virus is fast in the highly populated areas when you get in contact with suspected or confirmed people with COVID-19. Traveling may increase the risk of getting in touch with the virus. Being in contact with the person who developed coronavirus symptoms or illness is highly infectious. The severity of the illness may vary from person to person depending on one’s immune system. Especially in children and teens, it is mild when compared to the adults or old aged people.

According to the medical authorities, people with the age group of 65years or above have high chances of developing the illness or symptoms of Coronavirus. People with below medical conditions are more likely to get affected by the virus:

  • Obesity

  • Lung diseases
  • Heart diseases
  • Asthma
  • People who undergo dialysis
  • Diabetes
  • Cancer
  • Cigarettes Smoking

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][boc_heading]Transmission of Corona Virus[/boc_heading][vc_column_text]Normally the coronavirus spreads from person to person when the affected person coughs or sneezes. So the droplets of the sick person are transferred into the air if the healthy person who is within 6feet distance breathe those droplets or touching nose, mouth, eyes and, face after getting in contact with droplets, it spreads the coronavirus. Virus is also transmitted through the objects or metals surfaces because the virus can live for several hours and days too depending on the materials. Animals can’t transmit the coronavirus to humans as per the records.

Studies show life span of Coronavirus (SARS-Cov-2 ) varies on different kinds of surfaces:
